Magazine Jobs description

A magazine editor ensures that his or her product is full of entertaining, informative, and newsworthy articles. A magazine editor generates topics for articles and encourages staff members to do the same. A magazine editor holds regular features meetings during which the whole department generates new ideas. A magazine editor decides which feature should appear in which issue. A magazine editor manages a team of staff and freelance feature writers and commissions an in-house or freelance writer to write a feature. A magazine editor sends out briefs for work to writers, with a detailed summary of what is needed, the deadline, word count, fee, etc. A magazine editor edits features and ensures that they are good enough to print -- this sometimes includes sending work back to the writer with queries or a request for a rewrite. A magazine editor contributes to art desk and production desk discussions about formats and illustrations and proofreads all pages after the production team has set them out before going to press. A magazine editor maintains and raises the profile of the magazine by networking with others in the industry and attending seminars, conferences, and trade fairs.

A magazine editor job requires a bachelor’s degree in media, marketing, advertising, or a related program. A magazine editor should have a working knowledge of word processing and database management software. A magazine editor must be capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment and be able to handle multiple assignments at once and meet deadlines.

Only PublishingCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
I was very pleased with the PublishingCrossing. I found a great position within a short amount of time … I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a better opportunity.
